Ever find yourself indifferent? Thinking whether your making things in a right way or the opposite? or Having the doubt that your happy yet you caught yourself in limbo? I think im feeling it right now. See the consistency?hehe
Today i gave out the letters i've wrote for four special persons that undergone their recollection yesterday well its not that grandiose rather its short just to remind those individuals that they mean to me. Sissy? nah! Its an act of appreciation. I just hope that one will react on it objectively? an response letterwould be nice...
I also felt the urge to eat all my handouts(readings) out of desperation to understand them by heart. Honestly its not an easy work reading almost 150n pages of paper albeit i enjoy the notion that reading feeds the mind and somehow i know i escallated from what i was then.
With outmost appreciaton to our professor whose excistence was given by God... Maraming Salamat po!
Please dont stop writting(i know you won't) but this is the least thing i could do to is to thank youTuloy X-mas Party ng Journ!....please....

Prime Time News Cast Programs

TV Patrol - 24 Oras - ANC - Teledyaryo

The battle for primetime newscast supremacy is still prevalent among news programs in different channels. The only way to reign is to top the ratings through surveys from the mass themselves. How to do it? Have an effective headline that would entice the viewers to affix into your program. The crucial part of a news program is the first three minutes or so of news delivery. This precious airtime is allotted for headline layoffs that will determine the success the entire program.
The matter of this article is Why TV Patrol, 24 Oras, ANC and TeleDyaryo chose to present or arrange their headlines as such in their November 19, 2004 airdate.
In a study made by Richard Rivera (2004) the content of the news cast, the use of visuals, the adoption of coherent and effective production techniques and presentation of stories contributes to the success of the entire news cast, also going back to the elements of news, does it have significance, prominence, oddities, is it in proximity, timeliness and most especially does it have Human interest?
This guidelines must be fused into a seconds to play news headlines to capture great number of viewers in a certain channel or news program to leave other programs behind.
To start with, lets take TV Patrol. TV patrol is the longest running television news cast in the Philippine broadcast media. In the stated airdate, TV Patrol fronted the paraded corpse of Hacienda Luisita ralliest in Tarlac City. As I assessed this headline, they probably did as such because it is unusual and the element of oddity is there, to parade dead bodies in an urban area and that for a fact is news since the Hacienda Luisita violent dispersal is still fresh in the minds of the public. The dramatic scenery of the relatives can budge the viewers to watch the compelling video and then followed by a headline that there are three ralliest and nine police were proven positive in the paraffin test. The second news story can justify the theory that majority of the dispersal unit were guilty of ballistic assault making more interesting because government officials and military elites will be questioned why they allowed such evident hostile action.
Next is the 24 Oras, descendant of the program of SAKSI that is more likely vigilant in delivery the news. Made to broadcast an exclusive amateur video footage of the violent Hacienda Luisita dispersal. Thought the Hacienda Luisita coverage of the different news programs, they repeatedly broadcast almost the same footage of the strikers throwing rocks to the dispersal unit projecting that the former is the antagonist and the root cause of the violent incident. My professor believed that it was only propaganda to make the public numb about the violence and for the public to be passive in unraveling the truth behind the incident. Well we aren’t! The new footage brought a new angle though taken lightly to the violent occurrence because it showed bullet marks probably fired towards the direction of the ralliest. Making the headline coherent with the next news headline of the former newscast program’s lead headline. With these compelling videos of news story it may stir human interest of sympathy towards the strikers. 24 Oras presented it in a chronological type of news presentation showing what had caused the incident in a different angle, the effect of the violence and the on going conflict of the story that may lead us to be entice to know what will be the denouement of story. Thus making the content much appealing because the processing of facts were made easy.
Then ANC, a 24-hour news cable news program of ABS-CBN news and current affairs. The Program is more subdued yet informative (Rivera) that caters to both upper and middle class markets. Because of its nature to be seen internationally it focused in the incident in globe where Filipinos were involve and of concern. I fronted the positive progress of the rescue attempt of the Filipino Roberto Tarongoy made by RP negotiators. Though only a group of individuals are emotionally (personally) affected by the issue, the prominence of the issue lets us realize that the victim is a Filipino citizen who wishes to alleviate his family from poverty leading him to venture abroad, just like most of the situations of some Filipino family. But due to the video footages with minimal change though with good narration it became less appealing to the mass that is why the formal or standard news presentation of ANC appeals only to a selected bracket of audience unlike the mix tabloid style of TV Partrol and 24 Oras.
Lastly, TeleDyaryo, under a government sequestered station NBN (PTV-4) , Teledyaryo Is the newspaper on air, Needless to say it promotes developmental journalism(called sunshine journalism in Japan) it is expected to present developments of the programs and activities of the government specially events that could surface the “essential” moves of the government for the Philippine progress. In its November 19 news cast the lead headline reports that the President Arroyo arrived to California as the first leg for the APEC summit in Chile. SO what? She just arrived there. Where is the “lead headline quality” there? Just because it was covered by media outside the Philippine territory? It’s not the first time the president went to a country for an important affair to be called “first leg” or what so ever! It just shown that she bagged her husband, “servants” and some economic elite for what? To discuss how they could deplete the resources of my country for their questionable development measures? The lead headline just led me to question, why should it be? More so is it another manipulation in media for the aesthetic beautification of the Government. Then followed by an intriguing news story of a military elite held responsible for illegally accumulating a big sum of money for imprisonment transfer. With videos as if the military suspect it show as if they didn’t do the anything bad.
The headlines to be shown in every news cast program follow a certain considerations that’s why they are presented as such before they become headlines themselves, either influenced by the mass’ hunger for knowledge about the apropos issues or a mandate by some of the elites in our society for their own sake, whims and caprices.
Point of realization: In our era of fast technological escalation, ironically it devolved us to be more visual rather that verbal human beings. Leaving us to be satisfied with just what we see not minding so much of its content. Albeit it’s the case some societies like communication academic strata, that teaches us to be more critical in assessing, accepting and reacting to the in formations being given to us my the Media. We just might be the next generation for Mass Media; it’s a good thing that the battle for supremacy in Media will not be because of rating and survey and commercialism but a genuine service for the Filipinos.
